Your sister Malvika, we learn, is getting married soon, so what special gift have you planned for Rakhi? Yes, Malvika is getting married. This year, more than Rakhi celebrations, all our energies are focused on the Lagnapatrika ceremony that is slated for August 12. And what am I going to gift her? I still don't know. Now that her marriage is fixed, it suddenly strikes me that well, she's so grown up!
And why do you feel that way? I am just three years older to her. But when she was in class V and I in class VIII, it felt like the age difference was huge. Now that we both are in our 20s, the gap seems less. We are more like friends. We share the same love for films and food.
So, Malvika and you were always close... Earlier, she was studying in the US and I was busy with my business. But ever since we shifted to our new home two years ago, we got to know each other better. Our rooms are next to each other and we share the same balcony. All those chats we had there are loaded with memories. I'll miss her...
Did you have to play big brother in school? I was a bad student, but she was very good at studies and she is disciplined too. So, there never was a chance for me to play big brother. But then she knows that I am always there should she need a supporting shoulder.
What is your best Rakhi moment? Rakhi at our place has always been an extravagant affair as we live in a joint family. It is so much fun. I always get a handful of rakhis — besides Malvika, Venky's daughters Aashritha, Havya and Bhavana are there too. They are always vying with each other as to who will tie the biggest rakhi.
Isn't your brother Abhiram also competing for the biggest rakhi? He is nine years younger to me and is nowhere in the competition. As for Venky's son, he is a good 18 years younger than me. Absolutely, no competition!
